A 29-year-old Deacon’s Farm, St Michael resident will wake up this Christmas in prison. John Goddard Wood will also ring in the New Year from that St Philip institution.
That’s because he was remanded until January 18, 2019 by Magistrate Douglas Frederick when he appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court this morning.
While Wood pleaded not guilty to stealing a generator valued $4,500 belonging to Williams Equipment Limited on December 21, 2018, it was discovered that he had not attended court in over a year and also had an unpaid fine. Prosecutor Station Sergeant Carrison Henry told the court that the accused had last attended court on May 8, 2017.
But Goddard, who had a matter dismissed by the courts, told Magistrate Douglas Frederick he thought both of his matters had been dismissed, thus his reason for not attending court.
However, a check of the records showed that Goddard had a $2,000 unpaid fine.
