Acting Station Sergeant Cameron Gibbons successfully argued against bail for a 40-year-old man who allegedly committed 18 offences saying there was a need to protect society from the accused.
Richard Alexander Alleyne, of no fixed place of abode, pleaded not guilty to damaging a motor car belonging to Stephen Collins between July 3 and 4, 2013 as well as motor cars belonging to Alger Greaves and Cheryl McCollin between April 24 and 25; Philip Corbin, Charmaine Poyer, Sandra Best and Ryan Thomas between October 14 and 23 and Andre Branch between September 10 and 13.
The accused also entered not guilty pleas to burglarizing the homes of several persons - that of Karen Caddle between July 30 and 31 and stealing a number of items worth $1,748 belonging to her and Kathy-Ann Caddle; Francina Neblett on September 19 and stealing a cellular phone worth $1,200 and a $130 purse; and that of Lionel Sealy where he allegedly stole a bunch of keys worth $80 between October 21 and 22.
He further denied stealing a $150 toolkit belonging to Hallam White between October 8 and 9; a $70 utility knife and $15 cash belonging to Dianne Waldron and two colognes worth $505 belonging to Curtis Quintyne between October 23 and 24 as well a $900 motor car, a $400 drill, a $500 sander, a $150 bit set, a $25 spanner, a $50 level, two pairs of glasses worth $75 and three tap and die sets worth $700 belonging to Frank Holder between October 13 and 14.
However, Alleyne was not required to plead to the indictable charges of stealing a $24,000 motorcar belonging to Ifran Vakhanya and a $26,500 motorcar belonging to Lionel Sealy between October 21 and 22.
In his objections to bail prosecutor Gibbons said the accused had committed the offences in different parts of the country and had no fixed place of abode and as such it would be impossible to locate him if released. He said there was also a need to protect the society even as Alleyne’s attorney Safiya Moore withheld her application for bail at this time.
The accused who appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant yesterday was remanded to HMP Dodds until November 26.
