‘I wanted to see my daughter’

An American man charged with two criminal offences said he was frustrated at being prevented from seeing his daughter when he committed the acts.

Jared Michael Eisenberger of No 213, 2nd Avenue Windward Gardens, St Phillip pleaded guilty today before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court to damaging five windows belonging to Trevor King and assaulting Immanuel Cesar occasioning him actual bodily harm on August 6.

Eisenberger’s daughter lives here with her mum, who is Cesar’s sister, while King is their landlord.

“I want to apologize especially to Mr King. Emotions got the best of me that day because I just wanted to see my daughter. I have been here for two months to see my daughter and I am getting denied each time I go,” Eisenberger explained.
“Mr Cesar and myself we were good friends before that but . . . he hit me first with a metal chair,” he added.

Cesar claimed the accused was being denied access to the child because he was always under the influence of alcohol when he came to visit.
However, the visibly frustrated dad denied this, stating: “That isn’t the case. I drink a Deputy [beer] now and then but I was not under the influence. I lost my job back home because of this. I am sorry Mr King. I want to pay for the windows but I want to see my daughter too.”

The magistrate adjourned the matter until Friday to get to the “genesis” of the problem.

At the same time, Sergeant Edwin Pinder revealed the complainants were seeking compensation but did not want to proceed with the criminal matter.
King said he wanted to be compensated $1,025 for the damage done to the windows, while Cesar said he was not seeking compensation for injuries suffered.
Cuffy-Sargeant ordered the accused to compensate King the full total by Friday or spend six weeks in prison. His passport was handed over to the court until the matter is adjudicated.
