For growing his own weed, George Junior Sheldon Hinds will have to fork out some cash.

That was the ruling of Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant after Hinds finally admitted to committing four drug offences over five years ago.

When the 42-year-old well digger, of Murphy’s Pasture, Chapman Lane, St Michael, appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today, he pleaded guilty to possession, cultivation, trafficking and intent to supply cannabis on February 5, 2013.

The court heard from prosecutor Sergeant Cameron Gibbons that police executed a search warrant at Hinds’ house around 5 a.m. on the aforementioned date.

When the accused saw police, he ran away, but the warrant was executed in his absence.

During their investigations police found 39 plants in his backyard. Hinds was eventually apprehended and taken into custody.

The drugs weighed 27.4 grammes and had a street value of $120.

Cuffy-Sargeant fined Hinds $1,500 in three months on the cultivation charge. If the fine is not paid he will have to spend three months at HMP Dodds.
