A 31-year-old man who admitted assaulting his ex-girlfriend while she was laying flowers at her mother’s grave, is expected to know his fate on Monday.
Damien Rommal Thorpe, of Mayers Land, Goodland, St Michael pleaded guilty to assaulting Ronda Thorpe-Young on February 10 occasioning her actual bodily harm but not guilty to the allegation that he committed the same offence against her on December 21 last year.
The woman, according to police constable Kenmore Philips, was at the Westbury Cemetery placing flowers on the grave when Thorpe approached and started hurling accusations at her. He then cuffed her three times on the left side of her face before running off.
The two were in a relationship which ended in November last year.
The matter was reported to the police and Thorpe later turned himself in.
Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant did not hear the accused’s explanation for his actions opting instead to have the complaint warned to attend court on Monday February 25 “so anything you wish to say will be said in her presence.”
In the meantime, Thorpe who was granted $2,000 bail has been warned to stay away from the complainant.
