First it was Guinness and then it was brandy.
This time though, Neil Ian Linton’s newfound love for stealing alcohol landed him a six-month stay at HMP Dodds.
Six days after being released on bail after admitting to stealing four bottles of Guinness, Linton returned to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today on another theft charge.
On this occasion Magistrate Douglas Frederick was not as lenient and sentenced the 41-year-old who has no fixed place of abode to six months in prison for stealing two bottles of brandy valued $248.58 belonging to Price Lo Supermarket in Sargeant’s Village, Christ Church on December 21.
Linton was however, not required to plead to a charge of escaping lawful custody without using force on the same day.
Station Sergeant Carrison Henry revealed that Linton went into Price Lo under the pretence he was shopping and went to where the liquor was stored and placed the two bottles into a basket with other items.
He then went to an area of the supermarket out of the view of the cameras and placed the two bottles in a bag and walked out of the store leaving the other items behind.
A cashier who witnessed the incident reported the matter to a manager. The next day Linton returned to Price Lo, but on this occasion the manager recognized him and asked a guard to apprehend him.
When police arrived and questioned him he said he sold the brandy and used the money to buy food.
The bottles of liquor were not recovered.
Linton will return to court on January 15 on the indictable matter.
