He was feeling lucky, so Tafari Tafarca Taylor decided to take his chances on a slot machine.
But when he failed in an attempt to double his winnings to $500, that frustration led to him punching the slot machine he was using.
Today, Magistrate Douglas Frederick ordered him to pay $250 to get the damaged screen repaired.
“You ended up losing twice. You lost the money in the arcade and now you are going to lose $250,” Frederick told him when he appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.
Taylor, 20, of 1st Avenue Jackson, St Michael, had earlier pleaded guilty to damaging a glass of one gaming machine on December 8, 2018 belonging to Paul’s Enterprises Limited, trading as Pot O Gold Arcade.
Prosecutor Carrison Henry told the court that Taylor went into the arcade and proceeded to play one of the machines. After winning a hand, he proceeded to double the machine and successfully won four doubles. However on the fifth attempt he lost and in frustration Taylor cuffed the machine and broke it.
He was spoken to by security who informed him he would have to pay for the repairs, but Taylor said he did not have any money at that time.
The barber by profession told the court he decided to play the slots during a slow day at work.
“The day was slow and I decided to go and risk. I was doubling to about $500 but the last double I lost and I just get a little frustrated,” Taylor said.
The magistrate told him he could understand his actions to a degree.
“When people get frustrated they hit the machines, but you went overboard,” Frederick said.
After telling the magistrate he needed a week to come up with the money, Frederick gave him until December 28, when he is scheduled to return to court.
Taylor will be reprimanded and discharged for the offence once the money is paid by that date.
