Fan comes between mother and son

A 29-year-old man has been advised to move out of his mother’s house if he wants to maintain a cordial relationship with her in the future.

Thriston Lennox Mario Williams, of 1st Avenue, Goodland, Black Rock, St Michael pleaded guilty recently to damaging a fan belonging to Sandra Williams on October 21 without lawful excuse.

Station Sergeant Carrison Henry revealed that the accused and his mother, the complainant, are constantly involved in a dispute over a fan with her having warned him on several occasions against interfering with her property.

On the aforementioned date the accused took the fan into his bedroom and a short time later his mother came and turned it off and left. He turned it back on and she again returned to perform the same function. However, he declared that he would solve the problem “once and for all” and slammed the electrical item into the ground and destroyed it.

However, the accused Williams said the information given by the prosecutor was only part of the story. He explained that his bedroom only has one window so he took the fan to use when he came home about 3 o’clock that morning. He added his mother came and turned it off despite he explaining to her that it was hot.

“She pulled it, I pulled it and then I said “I would f****** solve it,” he said adding that he subsequently damaged the property.

The magistrate then told the accused that he did not “have a leg to stand on because it is her place and her fan”.

It was at that time that the accused informed the magistrate that “when you are not in a position to help her financially she acts out”, adding that he had been out of a job of late but that would soon change.

“You have to move out. That’s the solution. If you move out then you [two] will live better. If you are there and she gets upset you can just say ‘see you mom’ and that’s it,” Frederick said.

The case was then adjourned to December 3 and the accused who was granted $500 bail was told that he would have to compensate his mother for her property on the next occasion.
