A painter from St Peter who had been on remand at HMP Dodds, today threw in the towel and pleaded guilty to four drug charges. Joel Delano Mings, of Batteleys, Speightstown, admitted to possession, possession with intent to supply and trafficking as well as importation of 43.3 kilogrammes of cannabis.

The Coast Guard and police acting on a tip intercepted a blue and white fishing vessel called Bubbles with Mings and another man on board. They were taken into custody and a search was conducted and the vegetable matter was discovered in 32 taped brown packages, hidden in a seating compartment behind the captain’s steering wheel.

Explaining what occurred on August 9, Mings told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant, after acting Station Sergeant Cameron Gibbons read the facts that “the boat went adrift” and then sometime later “suddenly we were intercepted by the Coast Guard. We just went fishing. When we went on the boat we didn’t see anything on the boat.”

Mings, who was again remanded to the St Philip penal institution, will know his fate when he returns to the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court on November 9.
