Compensation in the sum of $400 and a bond to keep the peace for 12 months were imposed on a 42-year-old man who assaulted another on October 6.
Leroy Alfred Harris, of Bartlett’s Tenantry, Sargeant’s Village, Christ Church, has one month to pay Fitz Albert Pinder the sum if he wants to avoid spending six weeks in prison.
Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant also placed him on a bond after he pleaded guilty to assaulting Pinder occasioning him actual bodily harm. If Harris breaches the order he will have to pay the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court $2,000 forthwith or spend three months at HMP Dodds.
Acting Station Sergeant Cameron Gibbons in outlining the facts said the men have been acquainted with each other for some time but had a recent disagreement over money.
On the afternoon of October 6 the two were at Harper’s Land, Bartlett’s Tenantry when
Harris asked Pinder to purchase a pack of wrappers for him which he did with his own money.
Pinder then handed Harris the item. Harris took it and shoved him away. Thinking that Harris was fooling around Pinder responded similarly. However, Harris retaliated by punching Pinder in the face, bursting his lip in the process.
“My mouth was damaged. All the inside and outside burst,” Pinder who was in court today said after Harris refused to explain his part in the incident.
