Burglary accused Marlon Omar George who was granted bail back in January due to a medical condition, left the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court on a stretcher over the weekend, after he was remanded to Dodds on fresh charges.
The 32-year-old of no fixed place of abode, appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick accused of entering Front Street Sports Bar as a trespasser, on three different occasions, stealing $7,614 in liquor belonging to Akila Billingy.
Those offences occurred between August 10 and 15.
He is further accused of having a screwdriver in his possession for the purpose of committing burglary on
August 15.
In his application for bail George claimed that police caught him under a house where he was simply sheltering from the rain and charged him for the offences. He also asked not to be remanded because he would be unable to access his medication in prison.
However, prosecutor Sergeant Vernon Waithe objected to bail on the grounds that George was already on bail, the seriousness of the offence, fear that he would reoffend, his antecedents as well as for the protection of society.
After considering the bail application the magistrate ruled in favour of the prosecution and remanded George, who was out on $10, 000 bail, to the St Philip penal institution until September 14.
However, as he sat waiting for his transfer to Dodds he began to foam at the mouth and slid to the floor. An ambulance was summoned, and he was taken from the court on a stretcher.
In October last year it was revealed that George suffered from myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune illness, which affects the immune system’s normal functions such as swallowing and the lifting of limbs.
