The manner in which a 37-year-old man vented his frustration against former Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler and the former Democratic Labour Party Government over their handling of the country’s finances, has landed him in prison for the next 12 months.
Giscard Jiriki Rwizi Debeauville, of No. 5 Applegrove, Black Rock, St Michael, broke seven windows between April 14 and July 29, five of which were at Sinckler’s constituency office.
A worker at Sinckler’s office reported the matter after being informed about the vandalism.
The accused Barbadian of St Lucian descent was also caught on CCTV breaking a show window belonging to Anchorage Store Limited twice in the span of a week.
He was arrested and when a search warrant was executed at his home, Debeauville reportedly told police then that he committed the act because he “was vex with Chris Snicker at the time”.
After pleading guilty to all the charges before Magistrate Douglas Frederick, the accused, who is known to the law courts, stuck to his story.
“I was vex and frustrated . . . with the way finances and taxes were spent by the previous administration,” he said in explaining his actions, adding that “the second occasion, I was not targeting the woman or anyone inside the store. It was just something lawless . . . . And I was under the influence of alcohol”.
However, Frederick told the accused that the current Government was now tasked with feeding him as he had no money to compensate his victims since he had been unemployed for two years.
The magistrate then imposed a nine month and a three month sentence, which will run consecutively.
