A 29-year-old St Michael man has been made to pay a hefty price for snatching the handbag of an English visitor.
Timothy Anthony St Pierre, of Garden Land, Country Road, will spend the next nine months at Dodds prison for the crime.
St Pierre and Dara Bremner met on February 25 at the restaurant of the hotel where she was staying and had a friendly conversation.
A few hours later they took a stroll on the boardwalk with St Pierre taking a dip in the ocean at one point. However, when he returned to shore he accused Bremner of stealing his cellular phone. She walked off and that was when St Pierre snatched her bag and its contents worth $1,504.26 before running off.
“I was under the influence of cocaine, sir,” St Pierre told the Magistrate Douglas Frederick today while pleading for help.
However, the magistrate conceded that while St Pierre, who is known to the law court, needed help for his drug habit, he also had to serve time for his crime.
“You took the lady’s bag when she trusted you,” the magistrate said as he imposed the sentence.
