It took only “one hit” for a 29-year-old man to relapse into his old drug habit.

Romell Ezekiel Ash, of Block 1E Haynesville, St James, also resorted to stealing two bottles of alcohol, worth $391, from Carlton A1 Supermarket, in order to get money to “get a lil something else to smoke”.

However, after he entered the Black Rock, St Michael establishment, he was seen by a customer putting the items in his haversack. A report was made to a security guard who kept him under observation.

Ash then went to the cashier and paid for mints before attempting to leave. He was stopped and asked to produce a receipt for the alcohol after he willingly opened his bag at the guard’s request.

“I would like a little help, I have a drug habit [which I got into] through a friend,” Ash said as he revealed that he had been to Verdun House five to six years ago and had been doing well.

“I dun know if I had take one hit, I can’t stop, but I still take it,” he explained, while breaking down in tears.

He also confessed to taking the alcohol “so I would drink it or sell it to get a lil something else to smoke”.

His mother also addressed the court and told Magistrate Douglas Frederick that Ash was the eldest son of her seven
children. She explained that he was doing well but fell in with the wrong crowd and went back to his old ways and “his
head gone”.

Ash then agreed to a three-week stint at the Psychiatric Hospital where he will be assessed once again for drug rehab.

He returns to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on June 29.
