Nineteen-year-old Anthony Junior Bishop can’t seem to catch a break.
The Chapman Village, St Thomas resident is spending his third straight night at HMP Dodds simply because he has been able to get someone to come to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court to sign bail on his behalf.
Bishop had earlier pleaded guilty to loitering at the Cheapside Terminal, The City, on May 27 with intent to commit theft. He also owned up to possession of cannabis.
However, though he was interviewed by a probation officer and offered bail, he has been unable to find a suitable surety.
“Ma’am I don’t have anyone,” he told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant today.
In response, the presiding officer said while she did not want to keep him in prison, he needed someone to post bail in order to secure his future attendance at court.
Bishop returns to court tomorrow for another shot at bail.
