Angry ex-employee

Upset that he had been fired from his job, Richard Ricardo Prescod took out his frustration on his former boss by cuffing him in the head.

His actions landed him in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court today, where he pleaded guilty to unlawfully
and maliciously inflicting bodily harm to Nazih Issa on May 15, 2018.

However, the 61-year-old, of Paddock Road, St Michael, told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant he only retaliated in self-defence.

“He spit on me first and then we exchanged blows. He attacked me first,” he maintained.

The magistrate released him on $5, 000 bail and adjourned the matter until May 25, when the complainant is expected to be present.

In giving the facts, prosecutor Sergeant Cameron Gibbons said the complainant was the maintenance manager at the Barbados Turf Club.

He had known the accused for about four years, as Prescod was also employed by the Turf Club as a casual worker.

Following a meeting with the Turf Club’s CEO Rosette Pierce, Prescod was one of several workers who were laid off.

However, Prescod believed the complainant was responsible for him losing his job and whenever he saw him he would harass him.

On May 14, Prescod saw the complainant and shouted, “Dog, dog, dog.”

The next day, the complainant was sitting in one of the stands at the Garrison Savannah and the accused approached him and asked him if he had something against him, to which the complainant replied, “no”.

Prescod then cuffed him in his right eye and left ear, before he was restrained by people who were nearby.
