‘I never went in that room yet!’
This was the public declaration made today by Matthew Martin Gibson, of Roxy Avenue, Water Hall Land, St Michael, as he vehemently denied wrongfully confining a nurse in a dressing room at the Branford Taitt Polyclinic and threatening her on March 13.
Appearing before Magistrate Graveney Bannister in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court today, the 25-year-old, who has Dr Waldo Ramsay as his legal counsel, explained that he went to the Black Rock, St Michael clinic after getting “juk by a prickler” from a bougainvillea plant on the aforementioned date.
Gibson said when he arrived “the boss lady” there told him to ask the nurse whether he could take Histal for the pain as bougainvillea pricklers can be venomous.
He further explained that he stood outside the room for half an hour waiting after a maid had informed the nurse that he was there.
“But she say, ‘I ain’t touching nobody’ after she told me to hold on,” Gibson said, insisting that he was standing outside the door all that time.
“I said, ‘wunna out there is bare demons and you’ll only care about you’ll self and you’ll money and time,’” the accused recalled telling the nurse who he said responding by threatening to call the police.
Gibson said at that point he “backed off about five feet from the door” as the nurse came out of the room and asked for an excuse in the small corridor.
“I never went in the room yet. I just back off and give she the space,” he stressed, adding that he later heard that
he had confined and threatened the
nurse.
“But I didn’t do those things. I didn’t have any intention of harming [the nurse]. That’s straight from my heart,” he told the magistrate.
The nurse in question as well as a witness and two police officers have already given evidence in the case which is being prosecuted by Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police Trevor Blackman.
The matter continues on Monday.
