A 49-year-old beach vendor has to keep the peace and be on his best behaviour for the next six months if he wants to avoid spending time in prison.

Lester John David of Jordan’s Lane, St Michael today pleaded guilty to causing a disturbance on Brownes Beach, 21 months after he was charged with the offence.

Police on mobile patrol saw David, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, near a beach bar which caters to both locals and visitors on January 11 last year.

He was heard using profanity and was, according to the police prosecutor Sergeant Martin Rock, disturbing people there.

He was arrested and charged after he was told by the officer to stop several times.

The case against David was expected to begin before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the No.1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today with two of the Crown’s witnesses present in court to give evidence.

However, David changed his plea telling the magistrate that he previously denied the charge because he was “frightened” and did not want to go to prison.

If he breaches the bond he will spend one month at HMP Dodds.
