A Christ Church teen, who admitted to snatching a visitor’s handbag and stealing its contents, will know his fate on November 6.
Nineteen-year-old Darian Miguel Layne, of No.163 Parish Land, was remanded to Dodds prison after appearing before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant and pleading guilty to stealing a $1,500 handbag, a $40 purse, US$120 cash, a $1,000 pearl necklace and a $1,600 cellular phone belonging to Nicola White on September 22.
White was reportedly walking along Aquatic Gap with five other people when Layne snatched her bag off her shoulders, popping the strap. He then ran towards Pebbles Beach where he searched and removed the items.
The matter was reported to police and Layne was subsequently arrested after his actions were caught on CCTV.
While in lawful custody, he reportedly told police he used the money to purchase food and that he sold the cellular phone.
Layne will make his second appearance in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court in 28 days.
