Well-known street character Ninja Man will spend the next three weeks on remand at the Psychiatric Hospital after appearing in court on a charge of committing sacrilege.

It is alleged that the 60-year-old, of no fixed place of abode, whose real name is Anthony FitzPatrick Lynch entered St Michael’s Cathedral, a place of divine worship, sometime between August 6 and 8 and stole a $125 crucifix and a $25 surge protector belonging to the church.

“Not me, I get beat to say I carry way a cross,” said Ninja Man, who was not required to plead to the offence.

When it came time for bail Station Sergeant Neville Reid objected on the grounds that the accused man had no fixed place of abode. He also said that based on the seriousness of the offence, there was need to protect society.

However, Ninja Man’s lawyer Dr Waldo Ramsey told the court “I think he needs care . . . he has lost weight and his condition is deteriorating”.

The accused man will make a second appearance before Magistrate Douglas Frederick on October 18 after being assessed by doctors at the Black Rock, St Michael institution.
