A 16-year-old will spend the next month at Dodds Prison after being remanded on a wounding charge.

Jayden Anthony Moore-Phillips of Price Road, Parish Land, St George, appeared before Magistrate Alison Burke in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding a 15-year-old male on April 12.

He was not required to plead to the indictable offence.

Objecting to bail, prosecutor Verdon Forde pointed to the seriousness of the offence, the fact that the complainant had to be hospitalised and receive several stitches, and the strength of the evidence as the incident allegedly occurred at a government institution.

He also stated that the accused was on bail from another court for similar offences.

“We are going to ask that the court protects the accused from himself and others within society from him,” Forde urged.

Noting that all matters before the court were serious and that should not be used as an argument against bail, defence attorney Steve Gollop insisted that the evidence given by the prosecution had not been tested and the court had only heard one side

Conceding that his client was already on bail, he asked the court to view the time of the adjournment as a “cooling-off” period and consider bail with “the appropriate conditions” when he returns to court.

Magistrate Burke remanded Price until May 15.
