With charges against him already pending in the judicial system, a Wildey man lost his chance at bail when he appeared before Magistrate Manila Renee on Wednesday.

Henderson Levere Roberts, 30, from Factory Avenue is accused of trespassing on Addison Worrell’s shop on April 30 and stealing $220 cash, $21.25 worth of cigarettes, $20 worth of soft drinks and $52 worth of wrappers.

He is also accused of stealing a bicycle worth $1,400 belonging to Winston Thomas, trespassing on Rhonda Hollingsworth’s and stealing a garden hose worth $67 between May 2 and 3.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and Station Sergeant Cameron Gibbons objected to bail.

The prosecutor told Magistrate Renee the accused was presently on bail in connection with similar cases and suggested there was a likelihood that he would re-offend if granted pretrial liberty. Station Sergeant Gibbons also mentioned Roberts’s criminal record.

Roberts’s defence lawyer, Asante Brathwaite, said her client has always turned up for his court dates, showing no propensity to abscond. She further argued that there was “nothing to say” her client would interfere with witnesses.

But the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrate remanded the accused to jail until June 9.
