A Trinidadian woman who was allegedly busted attempting to smuggle cocaine into Barbados has been remanded to prison.
Jewel Anastacia April Lovern Estrada, of No. 67 Upper Simeon Road, Pitty Valley, Port of Spain, Trinidad, appeared before a Bridgetown magistrate today charged that she on June 5, had possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficked in and imported the illicit substance.
She was not required to enter a plea to the offence since if occurred in the District ‘B’, Boarded Hall, jurisdiction.
Sergeant Edwin Pinder objected to bail for the accused based on the seriousness of the offences, fear that she would abscond as she is a non-national and that investigations into the matter were still ongoing.
Attorney-at-law Romain Marshall told Magistrate Douglas Frederick that he had “no problem” with his client being sent to HMP Dodds at this time, as there was “no surety today”.
Estrada was remanded to appear in the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court on June 12.
