Wrong ‘elixir’

After losing one of his two jobs, a stressed out Mikilie Rashad Edghill needed something to help him relax.

The cannabis joint he hoped would relieve that stress landed him before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today.

When the 28-year-old security guard of Kendal Hill, Christ Church, appeared before Acting Magistrate Anika Jackson, he admitted to having cannabis in his possession on January 10, 2019.

The first-time offender explained to the magistrate that after being fired that morning his spirit had been broken.

“I was stressed out. I had two jobs and I lost one on that particular morning, so I came to town to take my mind off the stress,” Edghill said, disclosing that he had been let go after failing to pass the probationary period as a customer service representative at a car rental company.

However, the magistrate told him that judging by his demeanor he did not seem apologetic or remorseful.

“Yes I am apologetic. I was just trying to educate myself so that is why I took the two jobs. It may not seem that way because of how I am feeling right now, but I am apologetic,” he noted.

Jackson then told him while he might have been upset about losing his job, he had made a “very silly decision”.

After consulting with an official from the Probation Department, it was decided that Edghill was a fit candidate for community service.

The magistrate ordered him to complete 120 hours of community service by April 12, 2019, and released him on $750 bail.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Carrison Henry told the court that acting on information received, police went to Crumpton Street where they saw the accused.

On seeing the police, he turned in the opposite direction and began walking away.

He was intercepted and consented to a search. A transparent wrapping containing vegetable matter was found in his socks.

The drugs weighed 2.7 grams and had a street value of $10.
