Man stressed by granny’s illness damages window

An unemployed man who said that he broke his mother’s window and seriously injured himself in the process because he was upset over his grandmother’s illness, will have to wait until next year to find out how much he must pay in restitution.

This morning Akil Jabari Mason of Gospel Hall, Dayrells Road pleaded guilty to breaking a window belonging to his mother Sharon Mascoll on July 3, 2018.

When he appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the No.1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court, Mason said “I was not vexed at my mom at the time or anything, but my grandmother was ill with cancer and I was angry because I felt like there was nothing I could do.” According to the police report, Mason broke the glass with his hand causing serious injury to himself.

Saying that he needed to hear the mother’s account, Frederick adjourned the matter until February 6, 2019.
