A teenager who had previously been remanded to the Psychiatric Hospital was released on bail with strict conditions.

Davio Nate Harding, 16, of 5 Blackman Field, Pinelands, St Michael, was allowed to return to his family for the Christmas holidays by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant when he appeared in the District ‘A Magistrates’ Court.

Harding is charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Stephen Hoyte on October 9, 2018.

His attorney Kamisha Benjamin told the court that Harding’s mother was prepared to stand as a surety and that her client was prepared to adhere to any conditions imposed by the court.

Initially, prosecutor Station Sergeant Carrison Henry had asked the magistrate that Harding be made to report to the police station twice a week as part of his conditions.

However, Benjamin revealed that while her client was 16, he suffered from a condition which meant he behaved like an eight-year-old.

A social worker from the Derrick Smith School and Vocational Centre, where Harding is a student, was present in court and told the magistrate she would personally take him to a police station if required.

Cuffy-Sargeant then granted him $3000 bail and ordered him to report to the District ‘A’ Police Station every Thursday by 2 p.m.

Additionally, Harding was also placed on a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.

He will return to court on April 24, 2019.
