Accused 19-year-old Reshown Decorey Cox claimed he was only seeking to spend time with his children and did not “know where all of this [the charge] was coming from.”
Cox, of Briar Hall, Christ Church, made the comments after he pleaded not guilty and the prosecutor objected to his bail on the charge that he entered the house of Sherrisa Smart on November 12 with intent to inflict bodily harm.
Station Sergeant Peter Barrow told Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch the accused should not be released at this time due to the nature and seriousness of the charge as well as the fact that he was already before the court on a charge involving the same complainant.
There were also fears from the prosecution’s desk that he would re-offend.
However, Cox said the situation was “slightly different”.
The accused explained that the charge now before the court had to do with his inability to see his children even as he was adamant that he did not trespass.
“Sir I was invited . . .,” said Cox who added: “I don’t know where all this come from at all . . . I went for my children . . . all I asked is to see my kids. This has everything to do with my children, nothing to do with her.
Cox further claimed: “she just [doing this] for spite because I have another woman. Every time I message for my kids, she is talking about my girl . . . “ the accused who has been on remand since November 15 said.
Following those submissions the chief magistrate told Cox to allow “things to cool off” and he would meet with him and the complainant on November 26.
“But we will keep you for your own safety and protection,” the chief magistrate said to which Cox replied: “ But . . . sir, wasn’t that a cooling off period already?”
