Alleged receiver granted bail

A man who allegedly handled thousands of dollars in stolen jewellery will make his next appearance in the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court on April 15, 2019.

Murphy’s Pasture, Chapman Lane, St Michael resident Shamar Ricardo James was granted $10,000 bail when he appeared before acting Magistrate Sandra Rawlins today.

James is charged that he engaged in money laundering on November 14 where he possessed a quantity of jewellery worth $17, 600, which was the proceeds of crime.

He was not required to plead to that indictable offence as well as that of dishonestly receiving stolen jewellery belonging to Colombian Emeralds International knowing or believing it to be stolen.

The accused however said he was not guilty of the charge that he had cannabis in his possession on the aforementioned date.

As part of his bail conditions, James must now report to Central Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday by 9 a.m. with valid identification and adhere to a daily 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.
