No report yet on teen burglar

The reality of prison life is now setting in for a 16-year-old who previously pleaded guilty to burglary.

Jadario Jelina Murray, of Cherry Tree Lane, Clevedale, St Michael today made a submission for bail on the grounds that “prison real hard” and that he had yet to speak with a probation officer with respect to a pre-sentencing report.

“I haven’t seen a probation officer . . . please give me a chance so I could go on my own,” the first-time offender who has another charge pending told Magistrate Douglas Frederick today.

“Give me a chance sir . . . I am among criminals . . . I round people that talking about homosexuals . . . I can’t get to sleep . . . I am not comfortable, jail real hard sir,” the youngster stated.

Magistrate Frederick informed the teen that prison was not meant to be easy and was a place to “reflect on what you did so the next time you will be more astute.”

Murray, who was charged with six other young men with entering La Cabane Bar and Restaurant as trespassers and stealing a $40 surge protector, 30 beers worth $90, two scrubbing brushes worth $15, two packs of sugar worth $20 and a $10 strainer on September 24, was remanded and will return to the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court on November 21.
