A 46-year-old auto technician who today pleaded guilty to a 2017 fraud charge has until month-end to repay the affected party.

Gregory Patson Clarke, of No. 7 Clarke’s Road, Hothersal Turning, St Michael is charged with a December 23, 2017 offence of dishonestly obtaining from Carzone Inc., two boxes of car tint worth $1,490 by falsely representing that a CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank (Barbados) Limited cheque drawn from the account of MJC Auto Service was a good and valid order for payment.

Sergeant Edwin Pinder said Clarke ordered the tint from the company and paid for the items with a cheque from his business account. He left with the items after being issued a receipt. However, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds on the account. Officials from the business made several requests for him to honour the payment but he never did. The matter was reported to the police and he was arrested at his residence yesterday.

Clarke, who is known to the law courts, told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant that he was “trying to resolve the matter now by trying to pay the money in full by the end of the month. I apologize to Carzone.”

The magistrate ordered the payment of the compensation telling Clarke that he had to pay the money no later than October 31.

He was also sentenced to six months in prison, which has been suspended for 12 months.
