A 38-year-old man charged with two theft offences will spend the next 28 days on remand at HMP Dodds.
It is alleged that Gladstone Llewellyn Bridgeman, of Block 2C Deacons Court, Deacons, St Michael, entered The Phone Shop as a trespasser with intent to steal between September 14 and 15.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court.
However he could not enter a plea to the indictable charge that he entered the same store between August 14 and 14 September as a trespasser and stole a screw diver, 27 phone screens, two pairs of earphones, eight cellular phone charging cables, four cellular phone charger blocks, nine cellular phones, 46 memory cards, three cellular phone batteries, 13 SIM cards, one Bluetooth speaker and $2,130 cash totaling $18, 020 belonging to Muhemmed Pandor.
Prosecutor Sergeant Rudy Pilgrim objected to bail based on the nature and seriousness of the offences, the fact that the accused is known to the court and for “betraying the trust placed in him.”
Pilgrim also pointed to the “copious and potency of the evidence” against Bridgeman and fears that he would try to dispose of items not yet recovered by police if released on bail.
“The aggravating feature is that the accused [allegedly] unplugged the surveillance camera,” Pilgrim added.
In his application for bail Bridgeman submitted that he would prefer being free until the matter was adjudicated as his girlfriend was pregnant and he was a diabetic.
He was remanded until November 5 to appear before the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court after his bail application was denied.
