Jamaican woman deported

An apparent challenge to a compatriot has resulted in a 36-year-old Jamaican woman getting a one-way ticket back home.

“All this was a plan and I didn’t know it would come to this,” Latoya Tamieka Thompson, who lived at Gall Hill, Christ Church, told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant today after she pleaded guilty to stealing a cellular phone worth $350 belonging to Shannalee Forrester.

“They call me Kitty and she told me ‘Kitty one way or another, we going to get you out of Barbados’ and I turn to her and say ‘take your best shot’ and this is it,” Thompson further explained.

Acting Station Sergeant Cameron Gibbons told Cuffy-Sargeant that Thompson and Forrester are both Jamaicans who ply their night trade on Bay Street, The City.

The prosecutor said Forrester was charging her cellular phone at a bus stop in Bay Street earlier today when Thompson removed it and left the area via a bus. The matter was reported to the police.

An Immigration Officer today informed the No. 2 District ‘A’ Court that Thompson arrived on the island on February 2 last year and gave Kingsland, Christ Church as her address. She was given six months stay as a visitor but failed to regularize her status.

She was convicted, reprimanded and discharged of the offence as the device was never recovered and was “handed over to Immigration Officials to be deported to Jamaica”.
