A well-known thief today wasted no time in pleading guilty to the latest charges brought against him.
“I ain’t got no lawyer, but I pleading guilty,” 43-year-old Dale Andrew White, of no fixed place of abode, told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court this afternoon even before the charges were read out to him.
“My brain like it fry or something. A t’ief is a t’ief right,” added White, who is known to the law courts.
Today, he admitted to stealing a flashlight, a charging cable, a hammer and a voucher totalling $145 belonging to Brian Scantlebury between August 9 and 10, as well as a pair of sunglasses, an umbrella, two mugs, two pens, two notebooks, two bags and two gift boxes worth $323 belonging to Gloria Carter between August 17 and 18.
He also owned up to stealing $85 in cash belonging to Kay Payne and $5 belonging to Nathaniel Boyce on September 3, as well as to having cocaine apparatus in his possession on September 4.
Police were on patrol in the area of Bonnetts New Road, Brittons Hill, St Michael when they saw White, who was wanted in connection with a string of thefts from motorcars. He ran off when he saw the police who gave chase and apprehended him a short distance away.
When the drug paraphernalia was found on his person he reportedly said: “I does use them to smoke dope with.”
Today he told the magistrate: “After I tell the police I did one, the police just write anything. There got paros bout de place, but I take the blame.
“I was in prison for two years. I won’t want it to be so long again, but I glad for the rest [because] when I in there I can’t get to smoke a cigarette, nothing so, just bare food, food, food,” he added before he was sent off to prison for 24 months.
