An 18-year-old labourer has pleaded guilty to robbery.

However, Donston McDonald Powlett, of Sixth Avenue, New Orleans, St Michael, was adamant that one of the items taken was rightfully his.

The teenager admitted to robbing Andrew Proverbs of $150 cash, a $300 chain, a $750 cellular phone and a $500 ring.

Sergeant Rudy Pilgrim said Powlett took the items from a man named Jerome who was at a jewellery store with Proverbs on June 12.

“ I [lent] him my chain to go on a cruise and I didn’t get it back and I see him selling it. I ain’t rob the fella. All I do is take back my chain and we end up fighting,” Powlett explained.

However Magistrate Douglas Frederick withheld judgment, instead requesting that both Proverbs and Jerome appear in the No.1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on July 11 to give their sides of the incident.

“I have to take your story with a pinch of salt,” Frederick said as he released Powlett on $1,500 bail.
