Convicted burglar Dario Arlington Hollingsworth has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
The 23-year-old, of Henry’s Lane, St Michael, stood in the dock today seven months after he claimed he was unable to walk and had to be lifted into the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.
On that occasion he strongly maintained his innocence, questioning, “how a man that can’t walk break into a man’s house?”

However, he not only walked into court last week, but he changed his plea to guilty for the charge of entering the house of Heather Dawn-Scott as a trespasser on November 2, 2017 and stealing a bag worth $150, US$300 and BDS$100 in cash, two passports worth $250 and Barbados identification cards (IDs) belonging to Dawn-Scott and Elizabeth Skeete, which were valued at $50 each.
In outlining the facts, Sergeant Edwin Pinder told the court Dawn-Scott was at home on the aforementioned date when she heard a noise coming from her bedroom. She later caught Hollingsworth searching through her belongings and after she began hitting on a partition, Hollingstworth fled the scene.
The matter was reported to police and the passports and IDs were later found.
When he was taken into custody Hollingworth admitted to committing the crime.
However, he told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant today he was in a wheel chair and had only pleaded guilty because he could not find a surety to post bail on his behalf.
That statement did not go down well with the magistrate who asked Holligsworth whether he was guilty or not.
“Ma’am I am maintaining my guilty plea,” he responded.
“I have been in prison for eight months. Please take that into consideration and [impose] no custodial sentence,” he added.
However, Hollingsworth was sentenced to 18 months in prison, even though the seven months and 21 days he spent on remand will be taken into consideration.
