A 22-year-old man,who pleaded guilty to having cocaine paraphernalia in his possession, has been remanded to the Psychiatric Hospital.

Police found the apparatus – a bottle which was cracked at the bottom and had a whitish residue in it – on Gills Road, St Michael resident Ron Darien Anthony Hazel while he was on Roebuck Street, The City last Saturday.

“That is my pipe,” Hazel reportedly told police when he was asked to account for the bottle.

When he appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant today, Hazel however asked for help in curbing his drug habit.

The magistrate informed Hazel that in order to get such assistance he would first have to be assessed by doctors at the Black Rock hospital.

“I would like help . . . so I am consenting to go to the Psychiatric Hospital for assessment,” the unemployed man, who is not previously known to the law courts, said.

He will make his second appearance in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on October 23.
