A 33-year-old mechanic, who is accused of assaulting a woman, has been released on $3,000 bail.
Brian Orlando Brathwaite of Lammings, St Joseph pleaded not guilty to the charge of assaulting Lisa Scantlebury on September 16 when he appeared before Magistrate Wanda Blair in the Holetown Magistrates’ Court today.
However, Sergeant Rudy Pilgrim objected to bail on the grounds that Brathwaite was currently on bail for a similar offence. He also highlighted the “brazen” nature of the offence, which occurred in the presence of the police.
However, in his own defence Brathwaite explained that “at the point I had red eyes.
“The lady had a cell phone with a light shinning in my eyes. I didn’t do anything intentional to hurt the lady, I just put up my hand and maybe touch her by mistake,” he said.
While granting him bail, the magistrate warned the accused man that he was before the court for two different offences.
“The third time you might not be so lucky with bail,” she said before Brathwaite was allowed to exit the docks.
The case resumes on February, 23, 2018.
