For the next 28 days, Grafton Junior Yarde will have a place to call home.
Yarde, of no fixed place of abode, was sent to HMP Dodds after the prosecutor argued that it would be difficult for the authorities to find the theft-accused if he were released on bail.
Even though Yarde denied stealing $2,400 in cash belonging to Talha Bhana sometime between August 29 and 30 this year, Station Sergeant Carson Henry said based on his criminal history, Yarde had shown a propensity for committing such acts.
“As it stands now, the likelihood of finding him for court if he is granted bail is slim as he has nowhere to lay his head,” the prosecutor said.
However, in making his application for bail, Yarde stated that he lived at Searles Avenue, Tudor Bridge, even while admitting that “I ain’t sleep there for a while.
“I does sleep by the bus stand,” he said, while promising Acting Magistrate Sandra Rawlins that “if you give me bail I will come back and pay the money.
“I am trying to behave myself, keeping cool and I don’t get involved in nothing. I will come back to court, honest,” he told in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court.
Despite his plea, the acting magistrate ruled in the prosecution’s favour, remanding Yarde to prison until October 2.
“Ma’am I have three small children that I have to take care of,” Yarde said in a failed last-ditch attempt to gain his freedom.
He is due to make his second appearance in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.
